      In desperate need of help

I honestly don't think I can get out of this, but here's the story. I have been unemployed for a little over 2 months and before getting that temporary job, I was unemployed for the better part of 2009. I have been living in my car at a Pilot Travel Center since the end of January. I traded in my desktop computer for a cheap laptop, so that I could continue to look for work and receive correspondence. I am a Type I Diabetic and took my last insulin shot this morning. I have no insulin left. I also haven't eaten in a week. I know there are are organizations that can help in these regards, but my third problem is that my car now has an empty tank and I travel anywhere (for assistance, to interviews, to fill out applications, to a homeless shelter). I actually e-mailed 10 churches in the area, on Tuesday, offering to work for any kind of assistance and did not receive one reply. I called a local mission today and explained my situation and let her know that I knew there were places where I could get help, but I couldn't get to those places. The girl suggested I call 911 for my medication and that I could always get gas. Calling 911 isn't an option as I'm not in immediate danger (not like I'm having a heart attack). It will take a little while for my blood sugar to continue climbing until I go into a coma. I don't want to sound melodramatic, but I've got 2 weeks tops before I coulod actually die. They say you can survive for 3 weeks without food (I've already gone one), but I'd rather not test it. Without the insulin, my blood sugar will continue to climb and when that happens I will dehydrate. I've been drinking a lot of water, but it will not compete against the high blood sugar dehydration. I know that it is vital to keep hydrated, in general, but especially if you're not able to eat.

Folks, I have no one to call (family or friends) for help and I'm at the end of my rope. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I hope it wasn't too long of a rant.

Yes microgiving requires those things but it is your decision if you are wanting HELP to do something about it. I know two people who have been helped there! And WUAH doesn't require those things period. I belong to WUAH and know!!!!

A lot of people have given you advice and if you don't feel comfortable with it don't take it but you seem to be beating a dead horse into the ground so to speak by bringing up the same thing with those two sites. No one said you had to use them just a suggestion.

Paypal Stole $150 from my bank account.Microgiving wanted a copy of my Social Security Card, a copy of my Birth Certificate and copies of all my utilitiy bills, and other documents. Same thing with wishuponahero. NEVER give this information to anyone asking for it online. I thought everyone knew that. Never give anyone online your bank account number. I learned that the hard way.

Wizard's detailed tutorial of Paypal is useful and completely accurate.  But, let's put the issue of "money being STOLEN from your account" to rest.  It's the same process as reversing a charge in your checking account.  If you deposit a fraudulent check and spend the money, you're going to have to pay it back.  That isn't stealing (not by the financial institution), it's called a correction.  Sheesh.

ICEVERYTHING, I believe the Starrshine case is an unfortunate misunderstanding, but it is not 'total BULL'.
First of all I'm using Paypal quite frequently without any problems. Second, I'm absolutely sure that the general idea of the Paypal business is clear and fair. Third, they are not in business of stealing anybody's money. However, what Starrshine is describing is not only possible, but unfortunately it happens on time to time.

In order to receive any payments via Paypal one must register with them and must link at least one bank account (and a credit card account as well in order to remove some limitations) with this registration. After they verify everything, including the bank account connection then you are ready to receive payments from third party. If the third party is an honest person (company) as you are the transactions are smooth and flawless. Unfortunately, if this is not the case and the third party pays, let say with a stolen credit card, here is the trouble. If the credit card was not reported stolen on time or the information was not disseminated all the way though the chain Paypal will allow the transaction. You will see the payment in your account and everything will good for a while. In a few days when the facts become clear for Paypal they will try to stop the transaction and to recover the amount of the purchase from your Paypal account. If in the mean time you have shipped the goods and even worst already transferred all or some of the money to your bank account, and you Paypal account is nearly empty then they can freeze you linked account and pool back the amount. Such action by Paypal even though justified from their view point could be devastating for you. It may overdraw your bank account, or stop important payments to other parties, or bring unexpected bank charges. Such freezing may take rather long time and all these troubles multiply with the time. All this coupled with sometimes abrupt, unfriendly and difficult to understand response from Paypal's customer service could easily create the impression similar to one Starrshine described.

There are many 'horror' stories on behalf of Paypal related cases. However, there is always reasonable and unpleasant for you explanation. In most cases these problems could be avoided if you know and pay attention to the process and be careful to follow simple rules:

        1. Do not hurry!
        2. Wait at least 7 business days from the finalized Paypal transaction before send any goods. I know the client is waiting…
        3. Wait at least 7-10 days from the finalized Paypal transaction before transfer money from your Paypal account. I know you need them now, but believe me you are better off with this need for another week and without the problems I described above.
        4. If a problem occurs talk to the customer service (do not yell). If this does not help talk to a supervisor. Be persistent and keep a log of your calls and conversations. Do not let go. Make sure you clear the case before you stop.

In general as with everything else apply common cense, be patient and you will avoid most of the potential troubles.

I have never had any problems with paypal whatsoever. I have recieved and transferred money as well as given money to several email address's and I have to agree with Iceverything that maybe something got screwed up with your account. I know of several people right here on aidpage that have gotten help from both the charities and haven't had to give personal info, maybe it was just the way you went about applying. I know it can be very confusing sometimes making out all the application required. If you don't want to give out any personal info you are not going to get much help so I hope you reconsider your thoughts about all 3 of these sites. Sincerely sheshe030

I can't believe this wbsite totally blew away another response I've written!

Anyway:  This post by Starrshine is total BULL.  I've used Paypal for years.  What you're reporting isn't possible.  Paypal doesn't let you withdraw money from strangers, they can only pay you.  And Paypal doesn't utilize account numbers for sending money to someone, it uses email addresses (which are then linked to account numbers that only the person with the password knows.  Somewhere YOU messed up and allowed something to happen to you that should not have happened.

And wishuponahero is an awesome site that required NO PROOF or "personal documents" (Maybe you're thinking of modestneeds.org).

Again, make sure info you post here is correct.

Oh, and if you can think of a 100% guaranteed safe and convenient way to give or receive financial assistance, please let us know!

Microgiving and Wishuponahero are not good. I joined them both and they want personal documents. NEVER put your personal documents on the computer.Too many people see them. I refused to let them have my personal documents.Never use paypal either. Some people ask for money to be put into their paypal account. Too many people's bank accounts have been wiped out totally by paypal. Paypal stole all my money I had in my saving account. I sold an old piano a few years ago and had $100 in the bank.I joined a site that was supposed to help people. I gave them my paypal account #.Someone sent me $50 to my paypal account . I wanted to withdraw some money and when I tried I was told my balance was 0.  Paypal stole every thing.

        Hi

Sorry to hear your medication is so expensive. Have you tried wishuponahero.com?

        In my blog

        http://starshine1.aidpage.com/

is the deal called free gas and you could check to see if it helps.

There is a place called microgiving

        http://www.microgiving.com/

I know of a couple people who have used it.

        Good luck

I get the brand Novolin from Wal-Mart for $25 a bottle. Their stuff is co-branded Relion and it sells much cheaper than other places. I went to Walgreen's and they wanted $60 and my local grocery pharmacy wanted $50.

I use both long acting and short acting insulins to keep everything in balance. So, I end up paying $50 a month. Of course, everything's expensive when you have no money, but it's not a bad deal considering today's medication prices.

in response to ICEVERYTHING...   Man, that sounds really good. Unfortunately, I have no way of getting there and at this point, anything I eat is just going to send my blood sugar through the roof. That would not be good right now. I appreciate the offer, joking or not, and it's been a while since I've had a pizza. Thanks for the response.

in response to whoknew...   Thanks for the link. The closest one I could find was the one that I called. After having not eaten in so long and my blood sugar condition, I'm a little worried about walking so far. Considering the alternative, though, it doesn't look like I have much choice. Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it.

the closest homeless shelter I could find for you was 14 miles away... the best I can suggest is this link below - you may be able to find assistance from 211.org
